Field Hockey Blanks Davidson, 3-0

Ava Smith scored two goals and Adèle Jardemar added two assists as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team got back in the win column with a 3-0 shutout of Davidson at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday.

MERION STATION, Pa.Ava Smith scored two goals and Adèle Jardemar added two assists as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team got back in the win column with a 3-0 shutout of Davidson at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Davidson (8-7 overall, 2-3 Atlantic 10) took control of the game out of the gates, ripping off five shots and earning five penalty corners in the opening three and a half minutes, but Paige Kieft made three saves and the Hawk defense kept the Wildcats off the board.

• Saint Joseph's (8-8 overall, 3-2 Atlantic 10) worked its way into the game and had the better of it from then on, but didn't break through until the closing minutes of the first half.  With two and a half minutes to go, Jardemar sent a long ball into the circle from near midfield; it was a dart right to the stick of Smith, who turned and fired high to beat Davidson's Avery Foster for a 1-0 lead at the break.

• Smith doubled her tally and ran her season total to a team-leading 14 goals on the season shortly after halftime as Emma Winther dished out an assist on a penalty corner that Smith converted for a 2-0 lead.

• The Hawks essentially put the game to bed with two and a half minutes to go in the third as Jardemar's ball on a corner was deflected home by Brooke James to extend the lead to three.  SJU would hold Davidson without a shot the rest of the way to seal the win.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Foster finished with six saves for the Wildcats, while Kieft wasn't called into service after the opening sequence.

• The Hawks finished the game with a 19-7 advantage in shots and an 11-7 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
