Men’s Soccer Provides 2025 Spring Update
A new training facility and an undefeated spring slate help highlight a busy four months into the tenure of Tim Mulqueen '88 as the former Hawk goalkeeper returned to his alma mater in December to become the fifth head coach in program history.

NEW FACILITIES
The opening of the brand-new Maguire Athletic Center has paved the way for a transformational student-athlete experience, providing a turf practice facility with regulation-sized goals and markings. The new facility allows for an additional space for Saint Joseph's student-athletes to train year-round, while the finished project also saw a renovated finish of the men's soccer locker room.
STRONG SPRING SEASON
With four spring games under their belt, Mulqueen and the Hawks have started off unbeaten during the spring season after opening play with a 1-1 draw against Lehigh behind a goal from freshman Oskar Steinicke.
In the inaugural Philly Soccer Six Cup, organized by La Salle's head coach Taylor Thames, the Hawks started group play with a 2-1 win over Villanova as Matteo Mazzotta opened the scoring, before Steinicke scored his second in as many games that proved to be the winner for the Crimson and Gray.
With a trip to the championship game on the line in an away contest against Drexel, the Hawk defense proved formidable as it held a 0-0 draw heading into a penalty shootout. St. Joe's gutted out the win in penalties with a 5-4 effort as Carter Fitzgerald's save provided the difference maker that sent St. Joe's to the cup final against La Salle.
The Philadelphia Union and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex provided the venue for the championship game under the bright lights of the newly-built training facility for the MLS side. A nervy game saw the Explorers capitalize late off a mistake in the back to take a one-goal lead with less than 10 minutes to play. The Hawks showed their mettle, providing an immediate response to equalize off a set piece and send the game into another penalty shootout. As they did against the Dragons, the Hawks showed their poise to win 4-2 on penalties to hoist the trophy.
ALUMNI DAY
Saint Joseph's looks to celebrate its Alumni Day and end the spring season on a high note in a match against Holy Family on April 26 at Sweeney Field. Festivities will begin prior to the start of the match, including a tailgate in the pergola adjacent to Hagan Arena and Barry Hall at 3:30 p.m. Free admission is being offered to the event, with the match against the Tigers set for 5 p.m.
