Miceli Named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year; Women's Lacrosse Adds Seven to All-Conference Team

Saint Joseph's Bella Miceli has been selected Atlantic 10 Women's Defensive Player of the Year as the senior defender highlights the Hawks' conference postseason honorees.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Saint Joseph's Bella Miceli has been selected Atlantic 10 Women's Defensive Player of the Year as the senior defender highlights the Hawks' conference postseason honorees.

Along with Defensive Player of the Year honors, Miceli was named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, while Alexa Capozzoli, Jorden Concordia, Emma Yoder and Maddie Yoder were selected to the All-Conference Second Team. Additionally, Concordia joined Sarah Groark on the A-10 All-Academic, while Emma Yoder and Claire Fowler earned A-10 All-Rookie Team recognition.

Anchoring the Hawks' defense, Miceli started all 17 games on the year and paced St. Joe's with team-highs in draw controls (93), ground balls (36) and caused turnovers (29). Her 29 caused turnovers are tied for seventh all-time in single-season history at SJU, while she sits seven draws away from becoming the second Hawk to reach 100 in a season. In A-10 play, Miceli recorded 20 of her 29 (2.9 per game) caused turnovers, 75 (7.5 per game) of her 93 draw controls and 23 (2.3 per game) of her 36 ground balls. Additionally, Miceli recorded two goals from her defensive role, while at the other end she helped the Hawks' defense allow 10 goals or fewer in nine of the 10 conference games. Miceli became the second Hawk to earn Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, joining Suzy Herlihy's selection in 2009.

The first Hawk to record 50 assists in a single season, Capozzoli enters the A-10 Championship with the sixth-most points (74) in program history. Along with post 11 multi-assist games, including a career-high eight assists against Temple to tie the program record, she has also registered 24 goals, and posted seven multi-goal games. Additionally, the junior attacker has also added nine caused turnovers and 13 ground balls.

Pacing the Hawks with a team-best 53 goals, Maddie Yoder became just the sixth Hawk to record at least 50 goals in a single season, and enters the A-10 Championship third all-time in program history. Starting all 17 games, Yoder registered a goal in 16 of those contests, and collected 73 draws on the season. Recording 11 hat tricks on the year, Yoder averaged 3.6 goals per game in conference play, including a career-high eight goals against La Salle that tied for second-most in the program's single-game history.

Making an immediate impact as a freshman, Emma Yoder has quickly established herself as one of the top midfielders in the A-10 having tallied 21 goals on the year. Along with registering 19 draw controls, Yoder has added nine caused turnovers and 12 ground balls. Starting all 17 contests, she has scored in 15 games and in nine of the 10 conference games.

Continuing to add to her impressive resume in net, Concordia has recorded 10 victories this season, marking the fourth consecutive year she has reached the milestone. Additionally, Concordia has tallied 142 saves on the year, breaking the school record in career saves and leading all active goalkeepers in the NCAA in saves (715). Boasting a .515 save percentage in conference play, Concordia registered 10+ saves on five occasions, with three coming in A-10 play. She also has recorded seven caused turnovers and is tied for the team lead in ground balls with 36.

Currently second on the team in goals scored (37) and fourth on the team in points (41), Groark has been a key contributor to Saint Joseph's success this season. Starting all 17 games, she has registered at least one point in each of the 17 games, and tallied multiple goals in 11 contests. Additionally, the two-time A-10 All-Academic selection recorded three caused turnovers and 13 ground balls on the season.

Earning a starting role in all 17 contests, Fowler helped solidify the Hawks' defense that limited A-10 opponents to 10 goals or fewer in nine games on the season. On the year, she has recorded 11 caused turnovers, with eight coming in conference play. Fowler enters the conference postseason with 17 ground balls and one goal.
