Trio of Hawks Break School Record in 800m; Women’s Track Finishes Action at Paul Donahue Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – A trio of runners in the 800m bested the school record on Friday evening as the Saint Joseph's women's track team concluded a two-day meet on Saturday at the Paul Donahue Invitational, hosted by Widener.
 
FRIDAY TRACK RESULTS

  • Madison Buddenbohn and Lauren Charboneau opened the meet with a back-to-back finish in the 5000m, finishing with times of 18:07.85 and 18:10.78.
  • Majken Lutzen finished with the fastest time of three Hawks in the elite section of the 800m, crossing the finish line in fourth place with a time of 2:07.33. Tess Crossan finished sixth with a time of 2:07.65, besting Quinn O'Brien by less than a tenth of a second after the junior timed in at 2:07.73 to take seventh. All three surpassed the previous program record set by Lutzen last year at 2:08.59.
  • Ava Curry took home the top time in the 1500m elite race, crossing the finish in 4:24.06 to best the field by nearly 1.5 seconds.

 
SATURDAY TRACK RESULTS

  • Seven Hawks entered the open section of the 1500m to begin action on Saturday as sophomore Grace Rudder paced St. Joe's with a sixth-place time of 4:42.30. The trio of Sabrina Paz (4:47.04), Maura Keane (4:47.22) and Danielle Juliano (4:47.24) were separated by two-tenths of a second to finish 10th-11th-12th. Grace Fennell added a time of 4:53.31, while Danika Slits' time of 4:56.32 and Katie Sparks' finish in 5:03.41 rounded out the event.
  • Jessica Rubio finished half a second off the pace of a top spot in the women's 400m, timing in at 56.32s to take second place in the event. Alexis Doherty recorded a time of 1:01.77, followed shortly behind by a 1:02.74 performance from Sydney Wynn. Rylee Barnhart wrapped up the event for the Hawks with a time of 1:03.92.
  • Sammy Walz secured third place in the 100m, bursting to a time of 12.15s to finish just .11s off of first place. Judith Walker (12.92s) bested Maya Adams (12.93s) by just .01s, while Chloe Kearney finished with a time of 13.77s.
  • Three Hawks finished in the top five of the 800m as Gemma Chevoor (2:11.49) and Alexis Westawski (2:12.19) shared a spot on the podium for second and third place, respectively. Samantha Korck produced a fifth-place effort after crossing the line in 2:13.80. Curry returned to the track after Friday's top time in the 1500m, racing to a 2:17.53 time. Freshman Sara Sherlock (2:22.31) and senior Carolyn Smith (2:24.57) concluded the event for the Crimson and Gray.
  • Tess Collins yielded a time of 1:08.60 in the 400m hurdles to secure seventh place. Camille Bertin grabbed a top-10 finish after her time of 1:08.80 comfortably put her into 10th.
  • Walz returned to the track in the 200m, setting a top 10 time with her finish of 25.18s. Rubio's time of 25.74s placed 15th, crossing the finish ahead of Walkers's 26.37s pace. Barnhart registered a 28.61s time to round out the crew.
  • The group of Bloxton, Chevoor, Korck and Westawski concluded the meet in the 4x400m relay, finishing with a time of 4:07.41 to place fifth.

 
SATURDAY FIELD RESULTS

  • Chloe Kearney's best attempt in the long jump measured to a 4.29m effort, competing as the lone jumper for the Hawks on the weekend.
