PHILADELPHIA – Jayda Shehadi recorded her first career brace as the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team edged the Temple Owls, 2-1 through a frantic final 20 minutes on Thursday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Shehadi's goals were her first two of the season.
- Juliette Muro and Chloe Khelil each had an assist.
- The Hawks held a 14-4 advantage in shots, including 9-1 in attempts on target.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite a significant advantage in both possession and shots for SJU, the game went scoreless through the first half thanks to six saves from the Temple keeper.
- Shehadi broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when she elevated on a free kick from Muro and headed the ball into the top left corner.
- The lead was shortlived as just one minute later, the Hawks conceded a penalty for a handball in the box. The PK was converted, knotting the game at 1-1.
- Not to be denied, St. Joe's earned a free kick on a foul just inside midfield. Khelil delivered the ball in and it slipped through the hands of the keeper. Shehadi pounced on the loose ball and sent it into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.
