PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team turned in its best offensive performance since last October as SJU downed the Rider Broncs 3-0 on Thursday evening.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Emily Hanrahan, Izzy Newton and Maddie Anderson each found the back of the net for the Hawks.
- Hanrahan, Natalee Vicari and Sarah Fisher each posted an assist.
- The tally was the first in a St. Joe's uniform for Newton.
- SJU last scored three times in a game on October 24 last season, in a 3-0 win at Duquesne.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a couple of shots were saved by the Rider keeper the Hawks broke through at the quarter hour mark. Fisher delivered a perfect through ball for Hanrahan who took one step to her right and buried her shot into the upper 90.
- Saint Joseph's doubled the lead at the end of the 33rd minute when Newton punched home her first goal of the season, rifling home a shot from just inside the top of the box past the keeper off a perfect feed from Vicari.
- Less than two minutes into the second half, St. Joe's struck again. Hanrahan served in a corner that was headed out of the mixer by Anderson to the right of the keeper for a 3-0 lead.
