Groark Reaches Milestone; Leads Women’s Lacrosse to 19-9 Win Over VCU

St. Joe's jumps to 9-7 on the season and improves to 8-1 in Atlantic 10 play. VCU drops to 6-10 and is now 4-5 in Atlantic 10 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Falling to a quick 2-0 deficit, the Hawks worked back into the game with two goals from Emma Yoder in the final two minutes of the quarter to level the game at 2-2.
- VCU regained the advantage in the opening minute of the second frame before St. Joe's held the hosts scoreless over the next 13 minutes.
- Sarah Groark sparked a 5-0 run in that span, Riley Miller earning the Hawks their first lead with nine minutes left in the half.
- Kate Fuhrman tallied her first of the day on Alexa Capozzoli's second assist followed by another strike from Maddie Yoder. Claire Fowler scored her first collegiate goal to cap off the run and push the lead to 7-3.
- After the Rams broke their drought, Groark netted her second of the day with 15 seconds remaining in the half to give SJU an 8-4 lead.
- Groark completed her hat trick in the opening minutes of the third stanza, helping the Hawks to a 6-2 run over the quarter.
- Capozzoli found the back of the net for her first of the day before Olivia McCloskey scored a minute later.
- Groark, McCloskey and Miller each scored in the final six minutes to give St. Joe's a 14-6 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
- Earning her fifth goal of the game, Groark registered her 100th career point after finding the back of the net with 11:47 to play in the fourth quarter.
- A brace by Lauren Iorio, Groark's sixth goal of the contest and a Fuhrman tally rounded out the scoring, giving the Hawks an eventual 19-9 victory on the road.
GAME NOTES
- Sarah Groark became the 29th Hawk to reach 100 career points, joining Alexa Capozzoli and Kate Fuhrman as the third Hawk to eclipse the century mark this season. The senior led all scorers with six goals on just eight shots, adding two ground balls in the win.
- Alexa Capozzoli's seven assists tied for third-most in a single-game in school history, a record she matched with eight assists in the win over Temple. With her 48 assists, the junior set a new program record for most assists in a single season, while her 94 career helpers sit one shy of Lisa Ross' second-place tally of 95.
- Maddie Yoder's lone strike of the day pushed her into second all-time in scoring in program history, now recording 155 career goals in her time on Hawk Hill. Only Shannon Feite (171) has registered more in her career.
- Kate Fuhrman tallied five points with two goals and three assists on the afternoon, moving her into 18th in program history with 125 career points.
- Emma Yoder reached 20 goals in her rookie season after her fifth multi-goal game of the year.
- Lauren Iorio registered a pair of goals for just the second time in her career, matching her high set in on March 11, 2023 against George Mason.
- Riley Miller scored in her 12th-consecutive game with two goals against the Rams. The junior has registered 16 goals on the season after just one goal in her first two seasons on Hawk Hill.
- Olivia McCloskey also added a pair of goals to tally a season-high. The two goals mark the third multi-goal game in her career.
- Bella Miceli recorded six draws on the day, moving her into fifth all-time in program history with 167 in her career. The senior also registered three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the win.
- Jorden Concordia commanded the net with seven saves on the afternoon to give her 708 career saves. Concordia leads all active goalkeepers in career saves.
- St. Joe's tallied a 32-27 advantage in shots, including a 29-16 discrepancy in shots on target.
- The Hawks won the battle at the draw with a 17-13 mark. St. Joe's converted on six of its eight free-position attempts.
- SJU is now 9-1 all-time against VCU, including wins in the last three meetings.
- The eight conference wins sets a program record, besting the seven wins set on four occasions (last in 2022).
