Men's Golf Finishes Tied For Third At Drexel Match Play Invitational

Saint Joseph's men's golf team finished in a tie for third place at the Drexel Match Play Invitational.

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Saint Joseph's men's golf team finished in a tie for third place at the Drexel Match Play Invitational.

How It Happened
• Playing through cold and blustery conditions, the Hawks took on Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island in the semifinals of match play.
Christian Matt posted a point for St. Joe's in his matchup with Aidan O'Donovan as Matt won 2&1.
• With the match all square after 14 holes, Matt went up one on the 15th, and after halving the 16th, closed the match on the 17th as he posted a par (four) to O'Donovan's five.
• Thomas Larkin split his match with Sean Magarian for Saint Joseph's half point as the pair halved after 18 holes.
• Down by two entering the 17th hole, Larkin posted an even-par four to Magarian's five to pull within one.
• Larkin capped his round with a birdie (three) on the 18th, while Magarian posted a par (four) as the two halved their match.
• In the other three matches, St. Joe's Keller Mulhern fell to Luke Stennett, 4&2, while the Hawks' Tyler Leyden dropped his match to Tyler Bruneau, 4&2.
• The Rams' Josiah Tong downed Kevin Lafond, 4&3, in the fifth match of the morning.
• Rhode Island downed Longwood, 3.5-1.5, to claim the tournament crown.
• The Drexel Match Play Invitational was held at the par-72 Green Valley Country Club (6,744 yards).
