Ava Smith Named Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – Saint Joseph's forward Ava Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced late Monday afternoon.
Smith scored a goal in each of the Hawks' three games last week. On Wednesday, her third-quarter tally broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the game-winner as the Hawks topped Delaware, 2-1, at a rainy Ellen Ryan Field. Two days later, she scored during a first-half barrage that powered SJU to a 6-1 win over Lehigh. Smith scored another key goal at Villanova on Sunday, tallying the equalizer in the third quarter of the game against the Wildcats.
A graduate student from Glasgow, Scotland, Smith leads the Hawks and ranks third in the conference with six goals.
The Hawks return to action on Friday as the hit the road for a conference game at Lock Haven.
