Men’s Soccer Adds Four to Philly Soccer Six Award List
PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team had four players selected to the All-Philly Soccer 6 Teams, announced by the organization on Thursday morning.
Senior Blake Driehuis was named to the PS6 All-Star Team, while the trio of Matteo Mazzotta, Tommaso Rossetto and Jökull Sveinsson were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Driehuis finished his career on Hawk Hill with five goals and an assist in the 2024 season to lead the team in goals and points. The New Zealand native recorded 19 goals in his career, finishing with 43 points in his 69 appearances. Seven of his 19 goals proved to be game winners for the Hawks. Driehuis began his career with a selection to the PS6 All-Rookie Team in 2021 after four goals as a freshman.
In his first season on Hawk Hill, Matteo Mazzotta immediately plugged into the midfield with starts in all 15 of his appearances. The Italian scored twice on the season with goals in each of the final two games against Mount St. Mary's and George Mason. In addition to his pair of goals, Mazzotta also added a pair of assists against Army and George Mason from his defensive midfield position.
Tommaso Rossetto joined his Italian countryman on the All-Rookie Team after his opening season on Hawk Hill. The winger added a pair of goals on the year with an assist for five points. Rossetto's breakout came in a win over Army, scoring an equalizer before providing the game-winning assist in the 71st minute. The rookie's lone goal in A-10 play proved to be the game-winner, scoring in the 87th minute against Rhode Island to earn Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
Sveinsson was the final selection of a trio that earned All-Rookie nods, earning extending time on the field with 11 starts in 12 appearances on the season. The Icelandic defender helped keep clean sheets against Loyola (Md.) and Temple on the season while being brandished only one yellow card. Sveinsson also added a pair of shot attempts from his defensive role.
