PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's men's basketball head coach Billy Lange announced the addition of Bino Ranson to the staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Wednesday.

"Coach Ranson brings an infectious personality that will elevate our program immediately," said Lange. "He is a teacher at heart and has a passion for developing basketball players both on and off the court. Any coach or player who has interacted with Bino has been touched by his selfless and servant leadership. He has the respect of the entire basketball community and his coaching and recruiting pedigree will sharpen us all."

An accomplished recruiter, Ranson has helped bring in multiple All-Conference performers to his teams, including MAAC Rookie of the Year, Jay Gavin at Marist. Ranson has also been part of the development of eight NBA players while he was at Maryland, including First Round picks Alex Len, Kevin Huerter, and Jalen Smith.

"I would first like to thank Coach Billy Lange and Athletic Director Jill Bodensteiner for giving me this wonderful opportunity to join a program that has such a great basketball tradition," commented Ranson. "I am very excited to bring my enthusiasm and work ethic to Hawk Hill to contribute to the great foundation and culture Coach Lange has established. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Lange as a person on and off the court. His energy and passion to teach and his desire to win is unmatched! I look forward to many winning seasons on Hawk Hill. GO HAWKS!!"

Most recently, Ranson spent two seasons on the bench with DePaul where in 2021-22, he helped the Blue Demons to their most successful season since the 2002-03 effort. For his work in helping to elevate the program, he was named to the 2022 Advancement of Blacks in Sports' (ABIS) Men's Basketball Assistant Coaches Watch List.

Prior to joining the staff at DePaul, Ranson was at Maryland for 11 seasons, during which the Terrapins won 221 games. Maryland earned a berth to the NCAA tournament in five of his last six seasons with the team, winning at least one game in four of them and advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2016. In 2020, the Terps were the Big Ten regular season champions and earned wins against four ranked conference opponents during the year.

In addition to his stints at Maryland and DePaul, Ranson has spent time at Xavier, James Madison and Marist. He is a 1999 graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he was a standout player and remains in the school's top-10 in career scoring (1,899 – 8th), assists (598 – 6th) and three-pointers made (226 – 8th).
