Book, Primrose Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Baseball Honors
WASHINGTON – Saint Joseph's redshirt junior lefthander Colton Book was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week while freshman catch Blake Primrose was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Book dazzled once again on Friday, tossing seven shutout innings and striking out 13 as the Hawks topped St. Bonaventure, 4-2. He scattered four hits and allowed just one walk while posting his third 13-plus strikeout game of the season and his seventh quality start in eight tries. This is the third Pitcher of the Week honor for the Manheim, Pennsylvania, product, who leads the conference in earned run average, batting average against, and strikeouts, while tying for the league lead in wins.
Primrose swung a scorching-hot bat this week, recording multiple hits in all four games as the Hawks went 3-1, including a series sweep at St. Bonaventure. He was 2-for-4 with a run scored against Delaware on Tuesday before going 8-for-13 with two home runs and nine RBI in the series against the Bonnies. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native was 3-for-5 with a double and five RBI as the Hawks pulled away from the Bonnies for a 14-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday. He then added three more hits, including a two-run home run, as Saint Joseph's secured a 4-2 victory in the nightcap, finishing the day 6-for-9 with seven RBI. Primrose capped off his weekend with two more hits, two runs scored, another home run, and two more RBI as the Hawks rallied from an early deficit to run-rule the Bonnies, 15-2.
The Hawks return to action on Friday when they host Fordham in the first of a three-game set.
