Men's Rowing Competes In Three Grand Finals At Jefferson Dad Vail
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team competed in three Grand Finals on the final day of the 2025 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday on the Cooper River.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's Varsity 8 opened the competition for the Hawks as the boat finished the course in 5:50.453 to place fourth overall.
• In the 2nd Varsity 8 Grand Final, the Hawks turned in a time of 5:58.385 to finish in fourth place.
• St. Joe's 3rd Varsity 8 capped the day in its Grand Final with the Hawks battling down the course as they finished in 6:09.102 to place fourth.
Coach's Corner
"Two weeks ago at the Bergen Cup we knew that the path to the medals dock at the 2025 Dad Vail was through the programs on the Schuylkill River. The Big five of Philadelphia - Saint Joseph's, Temple, Drexel, La Salle, and Penn - have all been nationally ranked in the top 25 this spring season. It is an exciting time for the Hawks and we are naturally disappointed in fourth place finishes in the 1V8, 2V8, and 3V8 races. The regatta had to make late changes to the schedule on both days of racing due to weather concerns and I thought we did a great job of adjusting and attacking the challenges," said head coach Mike Irwin. "Our roster will lose valuable depth with the departure of the Class of 2025, but we retain a strong nucleus from the 1V8. That core group will transition into training camp for the coxed four at the IRA at the end of the month, and we are looking forward to building for the future!"
