As the Saint Joseph's defenseman heard his name called in last night's draft, Verch became the highest PLL draft pick in program history. Tied fifth in program history with 63 games played, Verch finished his career on Hawk Hill as one of the greatest defensemen to represent the Crimson and Gray. His 69 caused turnovers ranked third-most in program history, while he also finished with two of the three top individual seasons with 29 and 28 caused turnovers in his junior and senior season. The senior also holds the individual game record with six caused turnovers against Boston University in 2024, while recording four caused turnovers on five separate occasions to tie for third in single-game history.
During that period, Verch became one of the nation's best in recovering ground balls. The Victoria, British Columbia native recorded a combined 164 ground balls over the last two seasons, averaging 5.3 ground balls per game. The tally ranks in the top five among non-faceoff specialists in each season.
A two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Verch earned preseason All-American honors prior to the 2025 campaign as well as being named to the 2025 Tewaaraton Award preseason watch list. Verch was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team on three separate occasions, while also being named to the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team for the impact made in the classroom and the community. Helping the Hawks to two NCAA Tournament appearances after an NEC Championship in 2022 and an Atlantic 10 Championship in 2024, Verch was recently named as a Saint Joseph's Class of 1950 recipient as one of the school's top graduating senior student-athletes.
With Verch's selection, St. Joe's has now had a player drafted in each of the last three seasons, becoming the only team in the Atlantic 10 to do so. Additionally, the Hawks lead the conference in draft picks (4) the last three years, with Richmond the next closest A-10 school with one.
