Field Hockey Ranked 13th in NFHCA Coaches Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team is ranked 13th in this week's Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll, the NFHCA announced on Tuesday morning.
The Hawks dropped their lone contest of the week on Sunday falling 2-1 in overtime at Penn State. Ava Smith scored the equalizer to tie the game late in the first quarter; after three scoreless frames, the Nittany Lions got the winner in the first extra period.
Future Hawk opponent Liberty made the week's biggest jump, up eight spots to #9. Maryland is ranked 10th this week, while previous opponents UConn and Penn State came in at #16 and #17, respectively. Monmouth broke into this week's poll at #19; SJU hosted Monmouth in a preseason exhibition at Ellen Ryan Field.
Saint Joseph's will take on American on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Terrapin Invitational; the Hawks will then meet Maryland on Sunday at noon.
