MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's softball team opened a weekend series against the Dayton Flyers, taking a 9-1 setback on Saturday afternoon
Dayton got on the board first in the top of the opening inning with three runs, one of them unearned. The Flyers tacked on single runs in the second and fourth innings to expand the lead before an hour and 17-minute rain delay.
St. Joe's dented the scoring column in the sixth as Kayla Tauber doubled to lead off the inning and came home on Hailey Malito's second two-bagger of the game.
The two teams will wrap the series on Sunday with a doubleheader at the SJU Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
