Softball Nipped by GW in First Game of A-10 Tournament; Plays Again This Evening

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Saint Joseph's softball team battled to the final strike, but was upended, 2-1 in the opening game of the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship by the George Washington Revolutionaries on Wednesday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Hailey Peterson connected for her third homer of the season.
  • Kayla Tauber had two hits and now has 149 in her career.
  • Taylor Trowbridge had a strong game in the circle, giving up just two runs and six hits in six innings, tossing her eighth complete game of the season.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After dancing around some trouble in the first couple of innings to trail just 1-0 heading to the top of the third.
  • Leading off the frame, Peterson drove the first pitch of the inning over the rightfield wall, knotting the score at 1-1.
  • The Hawks had an opportunity in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but were unable to push the go ahead run across. The Revolutionaries manufactured a run in the bottom of the stanza to take a 2-1 lead.

 
UP NEXT
St. Joe's now faces an elimination game this evening at approximately 5:00 p.m. against the loser between No. 3 Fordham and No. 6 Loyola Chicago.
