PHILADELPHIA (July 5, 2017) — Saint Joseph’s University will host the fourth annual Ignatian Leadership Conference on Friday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Suitable for participants in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, the conference explores leadership through the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, who is often referred to as one of the most effective leaders in human history.

Titled “Ignatian-Inspired Insights for Leadership,” the one-day conference will be held on Saint Joseph’s campus in the Campion Student Center’s Doyle Banquet Hall and features two keynote speakers:

  • Author of The Self-Aware Leader, Dan Gallagher ’94, senior vice president of operations and client experiences at Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, will present “Self-Aware Leadership: How to Be Agile and Ignatian” at 9 a.m.
  • Chris Lowney, a best-selling author, leadership consultant and expert in Ignatian spirituality with two decades of experience in change management in both the finance industry and the non-profit sector, will focus his 11:30 a.m. talk on leadership challenges in global organizations, such as the Catholic church, and more specific examples in niche industry sectors. Lowney’s most recent book is tilted Everybody Leads.

Breakout sessions will be held at 10:15 a.m. and 1:35 p.m.

“This year’s conference offers participants opportunities to learn new tools for enhancing self-awareness and methods for personal discernment and healthy group process,” says Daniel Joyce, S.J. ’88, executive director of Mission Programs. “At a time when able and effective leadership seems all the more complex, this event allows participants to seriously explore St. Ignatius of Loyola’s time-tested and proven methods, making the conference experience all the more crucial for every sort of leader.”

The Ignatian approach to leadership is based on being a contemplative in action. The successful legacy of the Jesuits around the world has been adopted in numerous leadership contexts for almost 500 years. Conference organizers are expecting in excess of 100 attendees, many of whom lead area companies or nonprofit organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Registration is required. The cost for the full day is $85. Walk-in registration will also be accepted. More information on Ignatian leadership and the event can be found on the conference’s website.
